Beverly Hills-based Influential announced it raised a $5 million Series A round today. The data-driven influencer marketing platform has raised $9 million to date, and plans to use the round of funding to hire developers and data scientists.

Influential's platform, which utilizes the cognitive computing ability of IBM Watson, is aimed at harnessing unstructured data to connect brands with its network of social media influencers. The company boasts a network of more than 7,000 influencers spanning the social media world, represent some 4.4 billion followers.

“This Series A round, under the direction of Capital Zed, represents a significant step forward for Influential, as we continue to build our enterprise-level technology for brands and agencies, with a hyper-focus on unstructured data,” said CEO and Co-Founder Ryan Detert said in a statement. “We are ramping up hires and allocating resources towards our developers, data scientists and data partners, as we continue to change the market with our demographic and psychographic data approach.”

The round was led by Australian tech investor Capital Zed, with other investments coming from ROAR, Paradigm Talent Agency, Europlay Capital Investors and Ace Fund.
