Report: Amazon's Centers In San Bernardino Means More Jobs, But Not Much Benefit

A report, published this weekend by The Atlantic, says that despite offering lots of jobs to workers in San Bernardino, the net result has been less pay and a lot less stability--and even an increase in the poverty rate in the city. According to the report, although Amazon has brought in more than 15,000 full-time jobs at either fulfillment centers and one sortation center in San Bernardino--in the Inland Empire--the jobs are "grueling and high-stress" and few people are able to stay in the jobs to reap any of the touted benefits by Amazon. The Atlantic report quotes the former Mayor San Bernardino, Pat Morris, as Amazon's presence "a step back from where we were" as a city.
