Green Dot Gets Mobile Gelocation Patent

Pasadena-based Green Dot, the prepaid debit card provider, reported Tuesday that it has been issued U.S. Patent No. 8,989,778, covering secure and private location sharing for location-aware mobile communication devices. Green Dot said the patent relates to its use of geolocation for creating customized user experiences, as well as for risk management and fraud prevention. The patent names Samuel H. Altman, Nicholas T. Sivo, Mark Jacobstein, Brian R. Knapp, James F. Potter, and Thomas B. Pernikoff as inventors, and was filed by Green Dot way back in July of 2007. Green Dot was represented by Arent Fox LLP in the patent filing.
