Last week, Los Angeles-based Stroome (www.stroome.com), a new startup originally spawned out of a project at the USC Annenberg School of Communications, won $200,000 in the 2010 Knight News Challenge. So I actually started a graphic design company out of college, and got lucky with the web taking off at the right time. You don't need a CD, or hardware, it's completely web based. We actually wrote the business plan in a business plan class at USC. My other, non-marketable skill included philosophy. This is my third company.
