Santa Monica-based The Mobile Majority , the mobile advertising technology developer led by Rob Emrich, says it has acquired Gimbal , the Qualcomm spinout focused on mobile engagement and location intelligence in the retail market. Gimbal was spun out of Qualcomm in 2014, and had started as a project within Qualcomm in 2010.

San Diego-based Qualcomm has renewed its investment in Visage , as part of a Series C funding for the enterprise mobility management software provider. Qualcomm was the lead on the February 2010 round for Visage, whose software is used to manage the security and mobile policy for enterprise customers.

The Tech Coast Angels , [ profile ] the largest angel investment group in Southern California, outlined its 2010 deals today, saying that it funded a total of 31 deals in 2010, and had three profitable exits. The TCA said that 12 of those deals were new investments, and 19 were follow-on investments for the company.

2010 was very good to us. A number of companies in the portfolio delivered very strong operating results in 2010, which is exciting. Also, we had an investment in a company that went public this year, BroadSoft, which is one of 2010's best-performing IPOs. 1) Mobile web. I'll list three, not necessarily in order. (1)

In your opinion, what events, companies, or people made the biggest impact on the technology world in 2010? No doubt, it was Facebook and Twitter, which were incredible businesses for 2010. The second thing, is to look at companies who are creating value on mobile and the web that is not advertising based.

A new report released today by Internet measurement firm comScore says that the use of mobile banking applications has surged in the past year. comScore reported that in Q4 of 2010, 29.8 million Americans accessed their financial services accounts via a mobile device, a 54 percent increase from Q4 of 2009.

In your opinion, what events, companies, or people made the biggest impact on the technology world in 2010? The introduction of the iPad has completely revolutionized our mobile experience. I think that we now recognize that mobile is a much bigger opportunity than even the wired world. The obvious one is the iPad.
