Group Looks To Attract Women To Technology, Science

A local technology group is hoping to support women supporting technology and science education, by tripling the size of its scholarship program. According to the Association for Women in Technology this week, it has tripled its scholarship awards to three, $2500 scholarships aimed at Southern California women pursuing technology and science related education. According to President Melissa Galassi, the awards help to support the group's mission to increase the number of careers for women in the field of technology, foster career advancement through professional development and education, and provide a support network for women in technology. The firm raises its scholarship fund from its annual AWT Wine & Dine event, which it is holding on August 11th this year, and said the increase in the awards comes from the success of its 2009 event plus individuals and corporate donors. The scholarships are open to looking to study at a vocational school, community college, or four-year institution.
