Being intentionally productive is something we all strive for, but often fail to achieve. While back in 2011, a cell phone user received or made 12 phone calls a day on average, the number has dropped to just 6 calls in 2015. Videos offer a human connection, are efficient and do not interrupt the customer in the middle of something.

The part of the movement that resonates the most with me (in my words) is that entrepreneurs should keep their capital expenditures really low while they’re experimenting with their product and determining whether there is a large market for what they do. Marketing, recruiting, building data products & tools, event management, analyzing the portfolio, etc. Just as Yves mentored me when I became his co-managing partner in 2011, he didn’t seek to ride off into the sunset either.

He's now hard at work at a new company, Kaleo, which is tackling the enterprise, knowledge sharing market�and already has an impressive list of Fortune 500 customers. We're trying to save companies money, and increase the productivity of employees. The idea of waiting, asking, and waiting for answers is gone.

People don’t want to speak to customer service reps. I don’t want to speak to customer service reps!!

Jon Ferrara was co-founder of Goldmine software, a huge customer relationship management (CRM) provider which he built into a $100M business in the PC age, and is now working on doing the same thing in the age of the cloud, with another CRM startup, Nimble (www.nimble.com). That allowed us to deliver a scalable solution for our customers.

That company had done a number of very large products for clients like Yahoo and CBS. That system was launched as its own, separate company in late 2011. You can both export between our product, FatDB, and Microsoft SQL server, and we also support two-way, real time synchornizing of data.

Pharmaceutical companies spent $20 billion a year marketing their products to medical offices. Those representatives help educate providers on products, and deliver value to those offices. We came out in 2008, and raised a convertible round from Slater, and did a Series A round from Javelin Ventures at the end of 2011.

I think many entrepreneurs under-estimate the benefit that capital early helps in being able to produce product and differentiate yourself in a nascent marketplace. They evolve the product faster.
