Thinkful Offers Up Stipends For LA Technology Students

Looking to boost your skills and get a job in the technology industry? Thinkful, a New York company, says it has started accepting applications from people in Los Angeles for its "living stipend" program, which pays students $1500 a month to pay for things like rent, gas, and food while they take the company's technology training--in exchange for a portion of their salaries when they graduate. The company explained that its program allows local students to take courses and learn in-demand skills, in exchange for 15 percent of a students' post-graduation salary over four years. Thinkful says the payment period begins as soon as a graduate starts earning $40,000 or more, and is capped at $40,000 in total. The company says it was developed after it found that students had difficulty in enrolling fulkl time in its intensive engineering program. The company--which also runs the program elsewhere in the nation--offers up a "engineering immersion" and other similar courses to students. The company is one of a number of "coding bootcamp" operators which have cropped up online. The program looks to be advantageous for Thinkful--if its students can find a high paying job--as that 15 percent of a student's salary would likely be much more than the retail pricing on its courses. Thinkful's "Full Stack Flex" program, for example, costs $9,500 upfront.
