General Assembly Branches Out Into Coworking

Los Angeles-based General Assembly, best known for its roster of classes on all aspects of startup and technology, is launching a new effort to let people rent coworking space to alumni at its facilities. General Assembly said, starting on May 1st, it will let members of LA's tech community pay for membership, getting access to a private desk and 30 percent off workshops and events, with 24/7 access, as well as access to its campus lounges, conference rooms, open workspaces, communal tables, and kitchens. General Assembly said those memberships will be available starting at $300 a month. A spokesperson said that renting its office space to alumni only represents a small fraction of its business, and was created in response to a rising cost in office space.
