SpaceX Wins $290M Launch Contract From US Air Force

The US Department of Defense announced late Wednesday evening that it has awarded Hawthorne-based SpaceX, a $290.594M contract, to launch GPS satellites for the United States Air Force (USAF) into space, as part of its GPS III satellite constellation. The contract announcement by the DoD also included a $354.8M award to SpaceX competitor United Launch Services, for similar launch services for a pair of USAF satellites. Both of the awards are being managed out of Los Angeles, by the Contracting Division, Launch Systems Enterprise Directorate, Space and Missile Systems Center at the Los Angeles Air Force Base. The SpaceX contract is worth exactly $290,594,130, and will cover launch vehicle production, mission integration/launch operations/spaceflight worthiness and mission unique activities, with work performed in Hawthorne, California; Cape Canaveral Air Force Space Station, Florida; and McGregor, Texas.
