Los Angeles-based GoTV Networks , a developer of mobile applications, said today that it has acquired the HOMBRE (Hands-On Mobile Binary Runtime Environment) division of Hands-On Mobile Inc. As part of the acquisition, the firm said it has named Scott Scherer as SVP of Product Development and Technology for the firm.

We cater to mobile phone developers--right now the iPhone, and coming soon to Android. You have advertising networks and mediation players, but you don't really have an ad management platform like ours. Ad networks were springing up, but there was no infrastructure to power them. Our space is pretty young.

In some cases, the throughput is so high that we have a new challenge from our old friend, “network saturation.” To remove the network bottleneck for future rounds, we are concocting a plan to cross the streams, in a manner of speaking: use lasers and the fiberoptic QSFP28 ports on our Cisco switch to bump the network capacity up a notch.

People mistook the fact that these text advertisements worked in Google to say they would work in social networks. So PPC (pay-per-click) advertising on social networks has performed poorly to date. I believe that Twitter is (rightly) more preoccupied with the growth of their network and the engagement levels of their users.

Primarily because you can launch applications where you focus on a acquiring a user base with a compelling product while not having to worry about how to build your services into a map view or having to build in services that find local businesses, etc.
