Flywheel Expands Across LA

Mobile taxi summoning app developer Flywheel is expanding its coverage area in Los Angeles today, saying that it will now provide coverage in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Culver City as well as the Westside and the South Bay. The software developer--which lets you summon a taxi ride from licensed, regulated taxi companies using your smartphone--said the move comes as it has signed up three of the five taxi owner groups in Los Angeles. The company is working with Bell Cab, United Independent taxi, and Beverly Hills Cab Company to provide taxi service in the Southland. Flywheel entered the LA market in August, looking to help existing, licensed taxi companies compete against the entry of upstarts Uber, Sidecar, and Lyft into the LA market. The company's app provide similar functionality to taxi companies to what those other companies offer independent drivers.
