Amazon.com Challenges SoCal's Automotive Sites With Amazon Vehicles

E-commerce giant Amazon has made a move into the automotive research area this morning, challenging such local automotive information providers like Santa Monica-based Edmunds.com, Irvine-based Autobytel, Santa Monica-based TrueCar, Irvine-based Kelley Blue Book, plus El Segundo-based CarDirect. Amazon said it has launched a brand new, online car research site which is called Amazon Vehicles, which lets users search for specifications, reviews, images, videos, and more about both new and "classic" cars. Although Amazon.com is not yet offering up pricing information or purchase ability, the move is the first indication that Amazon.com might be considering more offerings in the area of automotive parts and perhaps vehicles themselves. Nearly all of the most popular automotive research sites have been based in Southern California.
