Video Game Industry. Caltech/MIT Enterprise Forum. Developments in technology have forever changed the gaming industry and the way video games are developed, distributed, and played. The Internet and mobile devices have allowed gaming to move well beyond the confines of the classic arcade cabinet. Social, education, and hardcore games are now distributed wirelessly to handheld devices, the free-to-play/virtual goods model has transformed how publishers monetize game titles, and crowd-sourced funding has proven to be a viable source of financing for independent game developers.
