San Diego's Halozyme Therapeutics was number 13 at 10657% growth; Irvine-based Spectrum Pharmaceuticals ranked 23, with 6490% growth; and Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal , was ranked #34, with 4,489% revenue growth over the past five year. Both Zorik and Michael very successfully took ReachLocal from just a small startup to a large, public company. Zorik Gordon: We incubated this at ReachLocal, and spun it out in February of last year. You guys were running ReachLocal for many years�what lessons did you learn there that you are applying here?

Los Angeles-based Internet Brands , which operates a suite of online, advertising driven websites across a wide range of verticals, said Monday that it would go private in a $640M, private equity deal, bucking the trend of Southern California companies filing to get to the public markets. Internet Brands had gone public just three years ago.

He’s a great guy and taught me a bunch of new things about affiliate marketing and his company. Santa Barbara born companies such as DoubleClick, ValueClick, Commission Junction and FastClick are all leaders in the space (the last three are all now owned by ValueClick who’s founder is a major investor in Make It Work).
