Emulex Sues Broadcom

The faceoff between Emulex and Broadcom is heating up today, as Costa Mesa-based Emulex, a maker of storage area networking hardware, said Monday afternoon that it has filed a lawsuit against Irvein-based Broadcom. Emulex said the suit alleges that Broadcom has acted in an anticompetitive manner in violation of federal antitrust laws, as well as made defamatory statements and engaged in acts of unfair competition in violation of seven separate statutes. Emulex said it is looking for damages, attorneys' fees and costs, and injunctive relief--plus punitive damages--"to punish and make an example of" Broadcom. The lawsuit follows an earlier, patent lawsuit filed against Broadcom in September, plus an often contentious, failed takeover of Emulex by Broadcom. Emulex said the lawsuit was file in the Federal District Court office in Santa Ana, California.
