“Great presentation. It was good to see someone else who actively thinks about the world from the user’s perspective.” -Testimonial from an attendee at the L.A. UX Meetup featuring Eric Reiss.

If you’ve never witnessed Eric Reiss speak at an event, this weekend is your chance to do so! Reiss is a world-renowned usability expert. He is the author of various best selling books including Practical Information Architecture, Web Dogma ’06 and Usable Usability. Reiss is the CEO of the Copenhagen-based FatDux Group ApS, an international user-experience deisng company headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has lectured on design principles at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, former Professor of Usability and Design at the IE Business School in Madrid, and serves on the advisory boards of several universities and institutes in both Europe and the United States. Attending his speaking events is not only educational and useful to your business but it has often been described as very comical and entertaining.

As a treat to  Angelinos, this coming weekend October 13th and 14th, Reiss is flying to Los Angeles from Copenhagen, Denmark and will be conducting two limited seating seminars in Culver City. These highly-regarded workshops teach business professionals the science of usability which ensures that websites, applications or physical products do what they are supposed to do and that their users can succeed with whatever tasks these products are designed to help with.

October 13: Usable Usability — Lean UX starts right here

This eye-opening half-day workshop teaches how to create lean UX. It is designed on Reiss’ principles of building usability based on the three E’s: Ease of use – the product does what the user wants it to do; Elegance and clarity – the product does what the user expects it to do; and Empathy – understanding and addressing the needs of the users. Attendees will learn a method for evaluating and improving products and services in a truly lean and agile way – a way that
has proven successful with clients, business students, and seasoned usability professionals alike. The program even offers a hands-on technique for individuals within a large organization to carry out guerilla-style usability hacks that show the value of usability to the people in charge of
budgets. Reiss will sign copies of his recently published book, Usable Usability: Simple Steps for Making Stuff Better after the Usable Usability — Lean UX starts right here workshop

October 14: Putting the content into content strategy – effective writing for interactive media

In this four-hour workshop, Reiss will teach attendees how to create findable, scanable, skimable, and readable on-line content that creates understanding, builds trust, and increases conversion rates. Topics include: Why writing for the web is different; Navigation – it’s about labels, not graphics; How to build shared-reference for your audience; The importance of core content descriptions; How to use contextual navigation (locally relevant links); What is
information architecture from a content-provider point-of-view; What is responsive content from a reader and device point-of-view; and How to build landing pages and conversion funnels that win customers.

Both outstanding workshops are scheduled from 8:00am – 12:00pm at NextSpace in Culver City. Reiss will sign copies of his recently published book, Usable Usability: Simple Steps for Making Stuff Better for those attending the Usable Usability — Lean UX starts right here workshop.  Pre-registration is required for both workshops.
