Culver City Selects Willdan For 100 Percent Renewable Microgrid Assessment

Culver City is looking to go 100 percent renewable at two of its municipal sites, according to technical and professional consulting firm Willdan Group. According to Willdan, it has been selected to conduct a microgrid deployment feasibility assessment at two Culver City municipal sites, which would be a 100 percent renewable power microgrid for the city. Financial impact of the deal were not announced. The new effort will not only help Culver City meet its zero net energy goals, the city also said the use of a microgrid will also help the city with its ability to operate the sites as independent emergency shelters. Willdan did not say which two municipal sites in Culver City were covered by the contract. Microgrids are the use of renewable power--usually, solar power and batteries--to allow for the powering of an area without need for connection to the electric grid. Those microgrids also sometimes use non-renewable sources like natural gas.
