Petnet’s System Goes Down, Angers Customers

Petnet said its third-party servers suffered an outage on Wednesday evening, temporarily disabling about 10 percent of its internet-connected pet feeders, reports the L.A. Business Journal. The remote-controlled pet feeding system was back up and running in about eight hours, the downtown company wrote in a blog post, but a number of pet owners who rely on the system to feed their animals were upset by the outage.

Technicolor to Launch Virtual, Augmented Reality Center

Technicolor is opening a technology development center in Culver City for virtual reality, augmented reality, and other evolving media applications, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The facility will be led by Technicolor executive Marcie Jastrow, who was been named Senior Vice President of immersive media for Technicolor.

Location Data Company Factual Joins Privacy Association

Location data company Factual of Century City has joined the Network Advertising Imitative, a self-regulatory association for data collection and digital advertising, according to a blog post. The NAI is a non-profit organization that was founded to maintain and enforce standards for data collection and use of data in online and mobile advertising.

Virgin Galactic Gets Flight Testing License

Long Beach’s Virgin Galactic has received a commercial operating license for its SpaceShipTwo vehicle from the Federal Aviation Administration, reports The Verge. The license allows Virgin Galactic to begin conducting test flights of the vehicle to see if it’s capable of carrying paying passengers into space.

AwesomenessTV Hires ABC’s Head of Content

ABC Entertainment’s head of comedy, Samie Kim Falvey, is leaving the network to join AwesomenessTV as chief content officer of the new premium video service the company is developing for Verizon, reports Variety. The unnamed service will be a standalone brand, wholly owned by AwesomenessTV, and will feature short-form content.
