Hytera Scuffles With Motorola In Court

Irvine-based digital mobile radio (DMR) developer Hytera is scuffling with Motorola Solutions in court, saying on Friday that it has filed a "motion to dismiss" in the Federal District Court in Illinois, over a copyright infringement claim against the company. Motorola had sued Hytera--which is based in China but has its U.S. headquarters in Irvine--over multiple patent infringement claims. An ITC judge ruled in July that Hytera had infringed on four patents held by Motorola Solutions. In the latest salvo, Hytera said that Motorola's complains were "vague and thus deficient" and should be dismissed; the copyright claims were filed after the favorable ruling for Motorola in July. Hytera's products in question are Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) products, which send digitally encoded radio signals over the air; DMR is an emerging standard being used in the radio communications area, which is where Motorola Solutions has a large base of government and commercial customers.
