Walmart Labs Plans Major San Diego Area Expansion

Walmart Labs, the technology arm of retail giant Walmart, is planning a major expansion in San Diego--hoping to tap into the area's deep depth of technology talent. According to Walmart, it is planning to triple its headcount in San Diego, as it expands into a new office which is triple the size of its existing operation in the city. According to Walmart Labs, it plans to triple its San Diego headcount to over 180, and expand into a new building which is around 30,000 square feet. Walmart Labs is the technology organization behind Walmart, and is responsible for everything from developing supply chain technology for the company, to customer-facing technology both in-stores and online. Walmart said the new office--which is led by site lead and senior director of engineering Claude Jones--recognizes the value in the San Diego tech talent pool. The new office is in Carlsbad.
