Maxon Buys Redshift Rendering Technologies

Newbury Park, California-based Maxon, which develops 3D modeling, animation, and rendering software, has acquired Redshift Rendering Technologies, a developer of 3D rendering engines. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. Redshift's rendering engine runs on graphical processing units (GPUs), and plugs into Maxon's Cinema 4D and other 3D applications. Maxon said that Redshift's customers include Technicolor, Digital Domain, Encore Hollywood and Blizzard, and that the software has been used on such movies as Black Panther, Aquaman, Captain Marvel, Rampage, American Gods, Gotham, The Expanse and other titles. Maxon's CEO is David McGavran; Redshift's co-founder and CEO is Nicolas Burtnyk.
