In a sea of generic internship ads seeking ‘candidates with strong work ethic, attention to detail, good analytical skills, and of course, ability to take orders and accept under-compensation’ (okay, maybe not so blatantly on that last one), we stumbled upon quite an interesting tweet:

Syyn Labs is hiring an intern?  You mean the same SyynLabs self-identified as “a group of creative engineers who twist art together with technology”?  Sound like a bunch of mad scientists to me.  Operating on the outskirts of downtown LA’s industrial sector, you know the group’s work is interesting with product offerings named the likes of: Standard Gravity, Marshmallow Man, Zombie Punch, ShadowSmoke, and Art Fall.  And who could forget the highly impressive, highly viral OK Go music video for “This Too Shall Pass” (exceeded 27 million views on YouTube), which incorporated a life-sized Rube Goldberg Machine complete with paint cannons, a flock of falling umbrellas, runaway spheres and barrels, and plenty of flying debris.

If there’s anybody who appears to officially get paid to muck about, it would definitely be this team.  And I mean that in the most respectful way possible.  So what’s the internship all about?  Probably in need of an administrative assistant to organize the work flow from clients?  Nope.  A data entry specialist or full-time ‘document processor’ to really utilize strong organizational skills?  Not quite.

Instead, with a description like below, we can only imagine what kind of aspiring engineer, artist, machinist, physicist, etc. will be having an extremely interesting summer.

Do you like awesome machines, cutting-edge creatins, and quirky characters?  If you are a creative hacker/maker/artist/science-lover looking for an internship this summer, we may be able to help you out!  Syyn Labs is a collaborative of scientists and artists who make unique interactive installations to enlighten and inspire the masses.  For a more comprehensive survey of our work and play, please visit our website at www.syynlabs.com.
