Broadcom Adds New 10GBASE-T PHY

Irvine-based semiconductor maker Broadcom announced this morning that it has shipped a new line of 10GBASE-T PHYs this morning. The chips--used for 10GB Ethernet switches, server adapters, and LAN on Motherboard (LOM) applications--are pin compatible with Broadcom's earlier devices, but consume 50 percent less power than its earlier line. Broadcom said the new chips will help data centers reduce their power costs and carbon footprint. Broadcom's chips are designed into 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, adapters, and other products by equipment manufacturers.
