Solarflare Takes Aim At Meltdown

Irvine-based Solarflare, which develops accelerated network interface cards (NICs), says its technology can be applied to mitigate the server performance slowdowns that are occurring due to theLinux patches required for fixing the highly publicized Meltdown issue with Intel processors. According to Solarflare, those patches--which impose a performance penalty of up to 30 percent on servers--can be mitigated just by using its XtremeScale NICs and Onload kernel bypass software. Solarflare said it has begun providing free, XtremeScale 8522 NICs for evaluation by customers to prevent the slowdowns, and will offer up its NICs for just $199.
