XPRIZE To Award $1M Bonus Prize For Ocean Discovery Contest

Marina Del Rey-based XPRIZE, the group which runs challenges to help advance the development of technology, will award a $1M bonus prize this month in Monaco for the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE, according to the nonprofit. According to XPRIZE, it asked teams to design new technology with the ability to detect chemicals in the open ocean and trace them to their source, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offering a $1 million prize for the most successful team. XPRIZE says it has three teams pursuing the bonus prize, including the youngest group of competitors in its prize competitions so far, a group from the Valley Christian Schools, a K-12 private school in Silicon Valley.
