Chipotle Launches Rewards Program, To Give Up To $250,000 To Venmo Users

Newport Beach-based restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill has launched a new rewards program today, and says it is giving away up to a quarter million dollars to users of Venmo as part of its launch. Venmo is a peer-to-peer payment system which is particularly popular among millennials and youth, which is owned by Paypal. According to Chipotle, its new rewards program. Chipotle Rewards, plans to give away money to approximately 25,000 people a day who are willing to submit the phone number associated with their Venmo account to the company. Chipotle said it will randomly reward between $1 and $500 to consumers who submit their phone number on the site -- in exchange for allowing the firm to post a notice about that award on the consumer's Venmo stream. Chipotle said the move is an effort to make the brand "more accessible" and to strengthen the relationship with its community. Paypal acquired Venmo in 2014.
