Viasat Wins Satellite Broadband Deal With EL AL Airlines

Carlsbad-based satellite broadband provider Viasat said this morning that it has been selected by EL AL Israel Airlines, to provide in-flight Wi-Fi on EL AL's transatlantic flights. Financial details of the deal were not announced. Viasat said EL AL will be using its Viasat-2 based broadband Internet service, covering travel to and from New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Miami and eventually, San Francisco and Las Vegas, when EL AL launches flights to those cities later this year. According to the company, the in-flight Internet is now available on EL AL's eight new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, eight Boeing 737-900 aircraft and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
