Report: Ring Video Doorbell Had Exposed Wi-Fi Passwords

According to a security report from BitDefender, it discovered a major security breach in the software of Santa Monica-based video doorbell and security camera maker Ring. Apparently, Ring--now owned by Amazon--had been sending the passwords of a user's Wi-Fi network in plain text, making it possible for hackers to intercept a user's Wi-Fi password. The vulnerability was apparently fixed by Ring in September. According to a spokesperson for Ring, who reached out to our publication this morning, "Customer trust is important to us and we take the security of our devices seriously. We rolled out an automatic security update addressing the issue, and it's since been patched." Ring has faced quite a bit of criticism for enabling widespread surveillance in recent months.
