Crown Bioscience Expands In San Diego

Crown Bioscience , a provider of drug discovery and development services, said this morning that it has expanded in San Diego, creating a new "Center of Excellence for Oncology" in the city. The company said the expansion comes due to increased demand for oncology research studies. Crown Bio said it has tripled its facility space in San Diego to 22,000 square feet, which meet Biosafety Level 2 requirements.

After a year in which Biogen’s share price has fallen by more than a third and one of its top drug prospects failed, Scangos, who has led the company since 2010, has announced plans to step down. As part of its earnings release, Cambridge, MA-based Biogen (NASDAQ: BIIB ) said this morning that Scangos will leave the company “in the coming months” after a successor is identified.

WeDo Gets $1M For To Do List App

Santa Barbara-based WeDo , a new startup developing social, to-do list apps, has raised $1M in a funding from angel investors, the company said this morning. The startup--founded by Spencer Shulem and Raad Mobrem--lets users track tasks, get reminders, and even collaborate on lists with other people. Name of the angels were not announced. Mobrem is a serial entrepreneur, who was the founder of Lettuce, which he sold to Intuit in 2014; Shulem is a 21-year old Mac software developer.

Zingle, a Carlsbad, CA-based tech startup targeting the service industry and consumer-facing businesses with its messaging app technology, has raised $3 million in venture capital, according to a regulatory filing earlier this month. The funding, provided by Santa Barbara, CA-based Rincon Venture Partners and Venice, CA-based CrossCut Ventures, represents the first institutional investment for Zingle.

Impinj , the developer of RFID chips and products which has operations in Orange County, saw a surge in its IPO this morning, and was trading around $17.24 in morning trading--up more than 23 percent from its $14.00 per share debut. Impinj priced its IPO last night, selling 4,800,000 shares of its common stock at $14.00 per share last nigh. The company now trades on the NASDAQ Global Select Market as PI.
