Viasat Wins $350M Defense Deal For Special Ops Communications

Carlsbad-based satellite communications provider Viasat has won a five-year, $350M contract from the United States Special Operations Command, the company said on Monday, to provide networking and communications equipment, sustainment, and support services. According to ViaSat, the contract will go towards advanced equipment, systems, services and support to significantly modernize ground/air situational awareness, tactical data links, terrestrial networking, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), tactical satellite communications, information assurance, network management and cybersecurity for Special Operations Forces. The new contract comes as the U.S. military has been increasing special operations deployment in such places as South Korea.
