Caltech Gets $750M For Climate Research

In the second largest donation ever made to a U.S. university, the California Institute of Technology has received a massive, $750M pledge from entrepreneurs Stewart and Lynda Resnick, to go to environmental sustainability research. The entrepreneurs--who own The Wonderful Company--will go towards research into what Caltech says are the "most pressing challenges" in environmental sustainability. The gift is the largest ever received in Caltech's history, and the largest ever for environmental sustainability research. In a statement, Stewart Resnick said that "Science and bold creativity must unite to address the most pressing challenges facing energy, water, and sustainability." The funds will go to research in such areas as solar science, climate science, energy, biofuels, decomposable plastics, water and environmental resources, and ecology and biosphere engineering, according to Caltech. Part of the funds will go towards the construction of a new, 75,000-square-foot building which will be named the Resnick Sustainability Resource Center. The Wonderful Company owns brands such as Fiji Water, Pom Wonderful, Wonderful, Teleflora, and Wonderful Pistachios.
