ATTOM: Foreclosure Filings Surge In Q3 2021

Irvine-based ATTOM, the unit of RealtyTrac which tracks foreclosure data, says that foreclosure filings for the U.S. have increased 68 percent from a year ago, and are up 34 percent from the previous quarter. The uptick in foreclosure starts come as a result of the retreat of foreclosure moratorium and mortgage forbearance programs. According to ATTOM, there were total of 45,517 U.S. properties with foreclosure filings — default notices, scheduled auctions or bank repossessions in Q3. Despite the uptick, according to RealtyTrac executive vice president Rich Sharga, the numbers are still "far below historically normal numbers".
