Cal Lutheran Gets $6M From Former Hughes Electronics Exec

California Lutheran University (CLU) is receiving a big, $6M donation from former Hughes Electronics Vice Chairman Steve Dorfman, for a new building for the school's School of Management, the school announced this morning. According to the Thousand Oaks university, Dorfman's contribution will go towards the construction of the two-story, 27,000-square foot Steven D. Dorfman Center, which will include both classrooms and faculty offices. Dorfman has been on the school's Advisory Council for several years. Dorfman previously was CEO of Hughes Space and Communications Co., Hughes Telecommunications and Space, and Hughes Communications, and had been involved with everything from the creation of DirectTV to landing five probes on Venus. California Lutheran University has been particularly active engaging with the startup and technology industry in Ventura County, and runs the Hub101 startup incubator and coworking space in Westlake Village, one of the most active locations for startup events and the local startup and tech community in the county.
