GraphPad Buys Biomatters

San Diego-based GraphPad, which develops data analysis and visualization software for the life sciences industry, announced on Thursday that it has acquired Biomatters, a provider of DNA data analysis software. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. According to GraphPad, the strategic acquisition will help it further serve and support its global customer base. GraphPad said that after the acquisition, both companies will continue to oeprate under their respective brands. GraphPad--which is backed by private equity investor Insight Partners--is led by startup veteran Thomas Swalla. Swalla was previously CEO of Student Brands, which was acquired by Barnes & Noble Education. GraphPad says its flagship tool, GraphPad Prism, is being used by such organizations as Stanford, Yale, Harvard, City of Hope, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NASA, Merck, and Sanofi.
