Wugen Takes $172M For Tumor Treatments

San Diego-based Wugen, a biotechnology company which is developing treatments for solid tumors, recently annoucned a $172M, Series B funding round. The company--which says it licensed its technology from Washington University in St. Louis--said the Series B was co-led by Abingworth and Tybourne Capital Mangaement, and also included Fidelity Management & Research Company, Intermediate Capital Group (ICG), Sands Capital, Aisling Capital Management, Alexandria Venture Investments, Velosity Capital and Falcon Edge Capital along with RiverVest Venture Partners, LYZZ Capital, and Lightchain Capital. Bali Muralidhar, M.D., Ph.D., Managing Partner at Abingworth, Bosun Hau, Managing Director at Tybourne Capital Management, and Peter Kiener, Ph.D., Venture Partner at ICG, will all join the company's board with the funding. The company said the funding will towards development of its memory natural killer (NK) cell platform and advance ongoing trials for patients with severe acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and other oncology indications, including solid tumors.
