OptionEase Ups Funding To $3.5M

San Juan Capistrano-based OptionEase , a developer of software-as-a-service for managing stock options and fair value accounting and compliance, announced today that it has raised another $1.0M in venture funding in its Series A round, bringing the total to $3.5M. The round came from Miramar Venture Partners. Bruce Hallett of Miramar joins the firm's board as part of the funding.

Cerritos-based Direct Drive Systems , a developer of high speed motors for the oil and gas industry, has been acquired by Houston-based FMC Technologies, FMC said earlier this week. According to FMC, it will pay $120M for Direct Drive Systems, which makes components used for pumping natural gas pipelines, offshore platforms, and for the subsea processing market.

Santa Barbara Firm In $725M Deal To Revive Ford Factory

A Santa Barbara-based firm Clairvoyant Energy , is behind a plan to revive an idled, Ford Motor Vehicle plant in Michigan, according to an announcement from Ford Thursday. According to Ford, it is selling its Wixom Assembly Plant to two firms--Xtreme Power, based in Texas, and Clairvoyant Energy, of Santa Barbara--to create a renewable energy manufacturing park.

Irvine-based Kofax , a developer of document management software, said over the weekend that it has acquired 170 Systems , a venture backed provider of financial process automation software. The deal was worth $32.9M. 170 Systems is based in Boston, Mass., and has about 140 employees; the firm was venture backed by Polaris Venture Partners. EduFire Heads North, Gains Funding

eduFire , an startup which offers online video classes, apparently has relocated to Menlo Park from Santa Monica, after raising $1.3M in a Series A funding. The firm's web site now lists Menlo Park as its headquarters, after it raised funding from Battery Ventures, Western Technology Investment, and angel Gokul Rajaram. The firm's CEO, Jon Bischke, did not respond to emails for comment.

ValenTx Raises $22M In Series B

Carpinteria-based ValenTx , a developer of medical devices for addressing morbid obesity, announced today that it has raised $22M in a Series B financing round. The round was led by SV Life Sciences, and also included Covidien Ventures, Sapient Capital, EDF Ventures, Kaiser Permanente Ventures, Affinity Capital Partners, and TGAP Ventures. The firm said the funding would go towards clinical and regulatory development and commercialization.

San Diego-based RoyaltyShare , a provider of royalty tracking for online music sales, reported earlier this week that it has signed on Nettwerk Music Group, a Canadian record label and artist management company, as a customer. Occam Networks Settles Class Action Lawsuit

Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks said Thursday afternoon that the firm has settled a class action lawsuit, which was filed against the firm in 2007. The company said it will pay $1.7M as part of a $12.66M settlement, the remainder of which will be coming from Occam's insurers and another defendant. The lawsuit stemmed from a financial restatement made by the firm in October of 2007.

San Diego-based Novatel Wireless has deployed the firm's mobile hotspot product, MiFi, in Singapore, the firm said over the weekend. Novatel said that MobileOne, a mobile operator based in Singapore and associated with Vodafone, is offerings its mobile hotspot product to consumers in the country. Novatel's MiFi--which is being heavily promoted by Verizon--allows users to create their own, personal Wi-Fi hotspots using a cell phone connection.
