Kairos Ventures Raises First Fund

Beverly Hills-based Kairos Ventures closed June 20 a $24.6 million venture fund, named Kairos Venture Opportunities, Socaltech reports. The venture fund will use the cash to invest in companies focused on “commercialization of scientific advances,” and is targeted at an overall capitalization of $100 million.

Falcon Heavy Ready for Flight

ArsTechnica reports Hawthorne-based SpaceX is ready to launch its Falcon Heavy rocket June 24 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Base. The rocket will take a solar sail experiment developed by Pasadena-based Planetary Society (founded by Bill Nye) which will attempt to use proton energy to self-propel and “sail” through space.

Bird, Other Competitors Banned from Nashville

After a man was killed scootering while drunk in Nashville, Tenn., Mayor David Briley announced today he would ban all electric scooters, ending a pilot project that had allowed Bird Rides Inc., Neutron Holdings Inc.’s Lime, and five other competitors to operate within city limits. Bird will still retain its operations in nearby Memphis, but must pull its vehicles from Nashville immediately, The Verge reports.
