ZeaKal Raises $15M More For Crop Efficiency Efforts

San Diego-based ZeaKal, a startup which is working on technology to improve the photosynthetic capacity and efficiency of plants, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $15M in a Series C funding round. The funding came from Canopy rivers, Finistere Ventures, and Middleland Capital. As part of the funding round, ZeaKal said that Paul Shickler, the former president of DuPont Pioneer, has joined the company as a part of its leadership team, working on driving strategy and partnership opportunities for ZeaKal. ZeaKal says its technology--which is based on plant genetics--increases a plant's photosynthetic capacity, allowing it to harvest more sunlight, sequester more carbon dioxide, produce higher yields and ultimately deliver better nutrition.
