Uber Pulls JUMP Scooters From San Diego

Uber has pulled the on-demand JUMP scooters it runs in San Diego from the city this week, over frustration over the city's new rules over dockless scooters, which include permits, fees, and data sharing requirements. Those new rules--which include a fixed fee over around $5000 and per-scooter charges of around $150 per device--is an attempt by San Diego to rein in rampant scooters in the city. San Diego also has engaged two other, on-demand scooter companies running in the city, including Los Angeles-based Wheels, and San Francisco's Lime; in the case of Wheels, the company had to modify its bikes to conform to those new rules, and the city has been trying to kick out Lime for failing to follow its rules.
