Whatever you’re working on now, the half-life of innovation is so rapid now that your product will soon be out-of-date. Your existence is irrelevant unless you continue rapid innovation.

Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal , the provider of Internet advertising services to small and medium sized businesses, said Wednesday afternoon that it will participate in Facebook's Deals test in San Diego. Facebook said this week that it would be testing out a Groupon-style deals in San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas, and Austin this week. ReachLocal said it will use its existing presence in San Diego to source deals from local businesses for Facebook.

Los Angeles-based GotCast.com , the online casting startup headed by Alec Shankman, said that it will donate all of its membership fees tomorrow, Tuesday, March 15th, to the Red Cross. According to the firm, it will donate 100 percent of its revenues tomorrow to the Red Cross Earthquake and Tsunami Relief fund. GotCast offers up an online site which helps Hollywood casting agents and producers to find talent; the firm also has been powering interactive casting events for a number of brands.

Most people think that being the best requires more intelligence, more training, and more experience. In reality, in business or even in sports, the evidence is conclusive that it is as much about how you think, as what you do. I saw this illustrated well recently in a sports excellence book called “ Training Camp: What the Best Do Better Than Everyone Else ”, by Jon Gordon.

Los Angeles-based Total Immersion , the developer of augmented reality software, said today that it has launched a new application for the iPad 2, Apple's new tablet computer. Total Immersion said its first app, AR Magic Mirror, allows users to try on virtual hairstyles, glasses, and accessories. The app uses facial recognition to identify users, and to apply virtual 3D enhancements.

Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen said late Monday that it is donating $1M to the Japanese disaster relief efforts. Amgen said the funds will go to Direct Relief International and the International Medical Corps. The funds come both from Amgen and the Amgen Foundation. The firm said it has longtime links to Japanese companies, and particularly its partnerships with Kirin Holding, Kyowa Hakko Kirin, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and Daiichi Sankyo.

Money to build the business is the number one challenge for most startups. Don’t believe the urban myth that you can sketch your idea on a napkin, and professional investors will throw money at you. In reality, only 3 out of 100 companies who apply are successful with Angels, and the success rate with VCs is even lower. A large percentage of startups never apply to either.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media has opened up access to its new fashion and beauty website, TypeF.com , which it has partnered with Tyra Banks to develop, the firm said today. According to Demand Media, the new site will "empower women of all shapes, sizes and styles" to discover their unique look. Demand Media and Bankable, Tyra Banks' development firm, announced the deal to create TypeF in February.

Los Angeles-based Hulu , the online streaming video site for television, movie, and other content, said last night that it is donating $50,000 its revenues plus donating $200,000 in ad inventory toward relief for victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Hulu said it will be donating $50,000 form programming across its Japanese content, coming from its share of revenue, towards the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the commercial rocket firm headed by Elon Musk, has scored another satellite launch agreement, the firm said today. Space Exploration Technologies said it has inked a launch agreement with SES , to launch a SES satellite using its Falcon 9 rocket. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. SpaceX said that SES is one of the largest satellite operators in the world.

Santa Monica-based Cornerstone OnDemand is expected to debut Thursday in an IPO on the NASDAQ Global Market. The firm, which has applied to list on the Nasdaq as CSOD, had earlier said it estimated pricing at between $9.00 and $11.00 per share. Cornerstone onDemand is a provider of human resources and talent management software. The IPO's underwriters include Goldman, Sachs & Co., Barclays Capital, William Blair & Company, Pacific Crest Securities, Piper Jaffray, and JMP Securities.

Beware emails seeking donations for victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami disaster, Internet security firm Norton reported Monday. According to Norton, it has detected more than 50 fradulent domains looking to scam people out of people looking to help victims of the 8.9 earthquake. Norton reported that spammers have already started to try to take advantage of the outpouring of support for the victims in Japan, pleading for donations.
