Culture Genesis Buys All Def

Santa Monica-based Culture Genesis, the venture-backed "digital studio" funded by Mucker Capital, betaworks, plus actor T.I., Grand Hustle founder Jason Geter, and NBA star Baron Davis, has acquired All Def, the media and content company which was founded in 2013 by hip-hop's Russell Simmons. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. According to Culture Genesis, the acquisition is the company's first. Culture Genesis--best known for a live game show called Triviamob--said that All Def will continue to discover and promote talent in the comedy, music, and poetry areas, but also will be bringing the Culture Genesis InteractiveLive software to All Def's audience. The two previously were partners, having worked together on a mobile app based on All Def's "Bar Exam" show. Culture Genesis is led by Cedric J. Rogers (formerly of Apple) and Shaun Newsum (VEVO, MLB Advanced Media). The company says that it builds, develops, and acquires digital media technology and audiences.
