Ring Rolls Out New Preview Feature For Doorbells

Los Angeles-based doorbell and security camera maker Ring rolled out a new feature on Wednesday, which it said will help the users of its battery-powered doorbells see the four seconds of video before motion is detected on its doorbells. According to the company, the new feature helps provide more context to what triggered its notifications. Ring said the feature is available exclusively on the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. The new feature--which Ring calls "Pre-Roll"--is similar to one that has been available for Ring's hard-wired devices, but had not due to the battery power of its video doorbells. The company said the new feature comes thanks to a new, three-camera module which records in black and white and in lower resolution, and fewer frames per second, versus the main camera, which is color at 1080p.
