Report: Ring Employees Fired For Unauthorized Video Viewing

In the latest drumbeat of negative coverage of Santa Monica-based Ring, a report from Vice, published on Wednesday, says that a number of its employees had been fired over the last four years for improperly accessing user video data. The disclosure--which was leaked to Motherboard--apparently was made on January 6th, to U.S. Senators who have been inquiring into the company's handling of videos. Ring has been battling negative publicity linked to a wave of hacked cameras, which appear to have been due mostly to users re-using already compromised passwords. It's unclear what kind of content those ex-Ring employees may have accessed, but the report says the access "went beyond what they needed to access for their job."
