5 tech events you can't miss this week

Each week, we bring you the top tech events in LA. This week, we’ve got a social media course for small businesses, a civic hacking night and the kickoff of Glendale Tech Week. We also have tips for future-proofing your business and a panel discussion of innovation in education. For more events, be sure to check out our full calendar.

Tech Talk Tuesday Sept 2016, Sept. 13 at 11:45 a.m.

Come hear Jumpwire Media’s Gary McGarry talk social media tips for small businesses. Even the best Twitter and Facebook users may struggle with posting relevant content as a small business. Jumpwire is always testing new social media practices, so McGarry will have some prime tips on what works and what doesn’t.

Civic Hack Night @ LACI, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m.

Civic institutions are a great source of open data, and this event helps that data turn into something useful. Bring your existing project to this meetup for feedback from the group, or just come ready to help out. And this isn’t just for coders and developers — designers, communications experts and everyday citizens are all welcome to come by and help out.

Hyper Island Los Angeles: Future-proof Your Business, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

While you may not be able to predict the future, you know that it’s not going to be the same as today. Preparing your business for those changes is vital to its success. This event will teach you how to be flexible in the face of change, while not abandoning your core values. This event is open to everyone from business leaders and management to creative professionals and marketers.

Glendale Tech Week, Sept. 14–17

Glendale Tech Week kicks off on Wednesday, showing off all that Glendale has to offer the tech community. With speakers like Vincent Bradley of FlashFunders, Kevin Yamazaki of Sidebench Studios and Cecilia Estolano of ELP Advisors, you’ll be able to learn from the area’s pros on how to be successful by taking advantage of Glendale’s many benefits.

Innovation in Education panel, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.

Technology is changing education, but we’re still figuring out what works. Both teachers and students are being affected by this change. At this panel, you’ll hear from some leading minds in edtech answering the question “How do we drive learning in a globally connected world?” It will also feature plenty of time to network and mingle over drinks and local fare.

Have a great week, and be sure to check out our events calendar for more LA tech events!
