BlackLine Aims Accounting Automation At College, University Market

Los Angeles-based financial automation software developer BlackLine is taking aim at the college and university market, saying on Thursday that it has partnered with higher education software and services firm Ellucian. According to BlackLine, the deal will help it deliver its accounting automation tools to the higher education customers that are served by Ellucian. Financial details of the deal were not announced. BlackLine explained that many colleges and university have small accounting staffs, and go through a difficult process where their IT teams have to export general ledger data, then import it to Excel where the accountants manually have to ensure balances are correct. The two are automating that process with their partnership. The companies said Ellucian works with more than 2,500 educational institutions in more than 50 countries. The two said they are already providing joint services to such customers as Drexel University, Gonzaga University and University of California, Davis (UC Davis).
