Goleta High School Students Win X Prize Contest

Students from Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta have won a trip to Detroit, after scoring the top prize in a student contest which is part of Playa Vista-based X Prize Foundation's Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE Education Program. According to the X Prize Foundation, EDV Technologies from Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta was the Grand Prize winner for the DASH+ student contest, which asked students to design the "dashboard of the future" for automakers. Those students--Jake Moghtader, Nikhil Shinday and Kelvin Noronha--with help of mentor and local software architect Kevin Schantz--created a dashboard, technical plan, and video pitch, which they will be making to automotive industry reprentatives this summer. Schantz is a software architect at QAD. The students' dashboard was voted the best eco-friendly dashboard, which provides feedback to encourage fuel-efficient driving. The X Prize foundation said that two other student teams were semi-finalists, one from the the Henry Ford Academy in Dearborn, MI and the other from The Harker School in San Jose, CA. All three teams are sharing $10,000 in prize money for their efforts.
