Amazon Greenlights Five Children's Shows
Amazon Studios, the media and production arm of Amazon.com, said Thursday that it has greenlighted five children's shows as part of its Amazon Prime studio efforts. Amazon STudios said that the five shows will be developing pilots, which will be posted on Amazon Instant Video, Prime Instant Video, Lovefilm UK and Lovefilm Germany, where viewer response and feedback will determine if those shows will be produced. The new shows come on top of an earlier six, comedy pilots that Amazon approved in December.
Amazon.com has been ramping up efforts in Southern California through Amazon Studios, to attract new content for its video streaming service. Amazon Prime Instant Video is one of the services which are provided to members of Amazon's Prime service, which also gives customers upgrades to free next day shipping and other benefits.
Amazon said the shows that will be piloted include Creative Galaxy, created by Angela Santomero (Super Why!, Blue's Clues); Oz Adventures; Teeny Tiny Dogs, produced by The Jim Henson Company; Tumbleaf, created by Drew Hodges and Kelli Bixler; and an untitled, J.J. Johnson project, created by J.J. Johnson (Dino Dan, This Is Emily Yeung).
Amazon also revealed that since launching in November of 2010 it has seen more than 14,000 movie scripts and 2,500 original series submitted.
