Hulu To Carry Epix After Netflix Falling Out

Los Angeles-based streaming television site Hulu scored a major win this weekend, and has inked a deal with television network Epix, after Netflix said it would not renew and existing deal with Epix for its content. Epix--known for its Hollywood movie lineup--is a joint venture of MGM, Lions Gate Entertainment, and Paramount.

Hulu said that the move will go into effect on October 1st, giving its subscribers access to such movies as Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek: Into Darkness, World War Z, Wolf of Wall Street, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Robocop, and God's Not Dead. Netflix said that it plans to increase its focus on creating its own, original movies instead, and complained that movies on Epix are "widely available on cable and other subscription platforms" at the same time as Netflix, and that they suffer from "drawn out licensing periods".

Netflix said it will stop carrying Epix movies at the end of September, and said that "now is the time" to stream movies from Epix on its service. Some of those Hollywood movies--the Hunger Games, Transformers, and Wolf of Wall Street--are among the most popular titles on the Netflix service.
