Focus On The Second Act | Suneel Gupta Twiistup 8

Suneel had a fantastic talk on focusing on your business and really digging into your company/product so that what you end up with is amazing.

First Act: You have the idea, get the capital and build out an amazing team.  You talk about your ideas and how to solve the problem, build out a business plan and how you are going to get people engaged and to use your product.  All that is well and good but don’t get stuck there.

Second Act:  As fast you can you should begin really digging into your product,  build out the wire frames, use the lean startup method to get it out asap.  Put it in the hands of your customers let them play with it and allow for some feedback. This is the area you should spend a lot of your quality time on.

Suneel gives a great example of this with their Groupon “G’s” reward program.  He demonstrates how they first came up with the idea, started building it out via wire framing, then going through some tweaking to fix some issues and holes they may have missed and finally getting it to the customers to test out.

Suneel loves to build stuff from scratch. Prior to his current role as VP of Product Development at Groupon, Suneel created products for Mozilla, blogged for MTV, developed television concepts for Sony Pictures, led trade efforts in Ghana, wrote speeches in President Clinton’s West Wing, and produced an interactive film project with his brother, Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN), which debuted at last year’s South by Southwest.
